I am very proud to present my very first author interview post ever! You guys, it's another blogging milestone! For the longest time, I've been meaning to interview authors that I want to support but I am one shy and awkward turtle. But now I think I was able to come out of my shell and ask all the important questions, so please cheer for me and join in on my interview with our first featured author, Ava Feliz!
- What is your inspiration in writing “The Problem With Being Laura”?
Laura, as a character, was inspired by a lot of my friends who had what they call “resting bitch face problems” but I took it a step further, in that Laura, herself, came across as cold. I’m very outgoing, but most of my friends are introverts so I’d think about them, especially the ones who went through Laura’s accidents! - How is your writing process like? Do you have any quirks in your writing process?
I just write, write, write, then scrap everything I write and start again. One quirk is that I have to write alone and in absolute silence. I need to get in touch with my emotions to be able to write, and I can’t deal with distractions. There were times I’d ignore my friends for two weeks because I was focusing all my energies on writing. - If you will be given a minute of face to face encounter with any of your book characters, who would you want it to be with and what would you say to him or her?
I would want to be friends with Mika and ask if we can go on adventures together, with our without Miguel. - Do you believe in love at first sight? Why or why not?
I used to not believe in “in love” at first sight until it happened to me, so I totally believe in it. However, I don’t believe in “true love” at first sight, because forever love is a choice you make once you get to know a person better. - Give us your best banat or pick-up line.
We were already ending before we even began.
- Finally, use “spark” in a sentence.
I hope the #romanceclass writers spark a renewed interest for the love of literature by Filipino writers. J
Ava Feliz loves to daydream about her own happily ever after. She also daydreams about being able to play with tigers, penguins, and bears. She firmly disagrees with her friends that she is a workaholic.
The Problem with Being Laura is dedicated to all who lost themselves somewhere along the way to adulthood.
Synopsis:
Laura Bayani is the most rigid person you’ll ever meet, from her white long-sleeved blouses with starched collars to her knee-length black skirts to her three-inch high heels. While her colleagues value her efficiency, it hasn’t won her any friends. For a promotion at work, Laura is advised that she has to prove she has the social skills to be an effective manager. Her colleague, Mikaela Perez and her brother, Miguel, agree to help. However, her every effort is met with disaster, and Laura feels increasingly unsure as she tries to break free from her self-imposed chains.
Will Laura have the courage to find herself, and maybe even love, to achieve things beyond her wildest dreams?
